2018年12月27日(No.116）
今年2018、最後の尾道無料英会話道場（第116回）として12月27日（木）、いつものように10時30分から開始しました。
複数のゲストや新メンバーを迎えますが、その中には日英両語に堪能な小学生2名がいます。
司会は私が担当し、リーディングとディスカッションのテーマを「心を和ませてくれるロバ」にしました。
December 27, 2018
As the last regular session of the year 2018 (No. 116) it started as usual at 10:30 on December 27.
Some guests and new members joined us and two of them were
bilingual elementary school students fluent in both Japanese and English.
I emceed the meeting, using “Donkeys Help Humans Feel At Ease” as a reading and discussing theme.

Tokyo’s strangest sights:
This was a theme title for talking and reading, which we used today.
One of the strangest sights in Tokyo introduced in the article is a cat café.
I wonder what else are strange for overseas travelers.
The session this time was emceed by Miss Matsui, a young lady member in her twenties using the article of her own choice.

尾道無料英会話道場・三成では毎年12月に昼食会があります。メンバー同士の忘年会みたいなものです。
今年はフレンチ料理を楽しみました。
来年は中華か韓国料理がいいなあ。
Year-end lunch with no alcoholic beverages after the session as an annual event:
Free English learning society in Onomichi has a luncheon in December every year, which is similar to a year-end party among the members.
We enjoyed the French cuisine yesterday this year.
We would like to have Chinese or Korean dishes next year.

11月1回目、通算113回目の学習例会には話題、討論資料として私たちの町・尾道の旅行記“Oh, Onomichi”を使用しました。
外国の旅行記者の記事ですが、本日の司会を担当する私が準備しました。
新しいメンバーの参加もあり、理解しやすい、読みやすい英文記事のために句読点を少なくする書き方をアメリカ人メンバーのノエルさんから教わりました。

The first Free English learning session in November, the 113th one in all was held today
using the talking and reading material of “Oh, Onomichi”, a travel story about our city of Onomichi, written by a foreign tourist. I have prepared it as today’s MC.
Having a new comer, we learned from Noel, an American member, also about how to stay away
from punctuation marks to write the easy-to-understand sentences from Noel, an American member.

第112回尾道無料英会話道場・三成では司会の松浦さんに準備していただいた「日本の9つの迷信」について話し合いました。
２名の外国の方が所用で出席できず、迷信の比較はできませんでしたが大変有意義な英語ディスカッションができました。

Two foreign members could not attend because of their own business, but we did a good discussion on it in English.

今週木曜日の尾道無料英会話の例会ではニューヨークから尾道に移住しているラッセルさんの司会で彼が準備した「ソバの歴史」についての資料を討論の対象にしました。
彼の前職はシェフです。
アメリカの人が準備した伝統的な日本の食べ物、ソバについての討論から多くのことを学びました。

At the regular ESS meeting (free of charge) today on Thursday the discussing item was titled “History of Soba (buckwheat noodle)” prepared by Mr. Noel Russell from New York, USA now living in our
city of Onomichi.
He used to be a chef in USA.
We leaned a lot from the talk about the traditional Japanese food of Soba prepared by an American.

The second English learning session in
Minari by Onomichi Free English Learning Society was held today on September 27 with all the 8 members attended.
The discussing theme was “Hokkaido quake reveals Japan is woefully unprepared to help foreign tourists in times of disaster”.
Today’s MC was Mr. Kurotobi, Representative of Glocal Labo and the next on October 11 Mr. Noel Russell from New York, USA.

2ヶ月振りの学習例会の司会は私、釜本で2ヶ月間の夏休み、異常に暑かった今年の夏をどのように過ごしたかを発表するのに最初の60分を使いました。

It was emceed by Ms Kudo, the oldest, the most studious lady pharmacist who is our spiritual leader.
The discussing theme she had chosen this time was mercy killing, euthanasia or assisted suicide.
The learning place has been moved to Mr. Noel Russell’s office since last time.

先月4月までは5年間、釜本事務所の一室を使用して開催していましたが、5月よりノエル・ラッセル氏の事務所で行うことになりました。
今回、5月10日のMCはノエル・ラッセルさんで、討論トッピクは「英検、大学入試制度から落選、問い合わせ殺到」でした。

本日26日の討論内容は100円ショップでした。
何故、100円ショップが人気があり、ビジネスとして成功しているか理解できました。
今回の司会は元会社社長の松浦さんでしたが、60歳代後半にこの英会話道場に参加され、ここ数年で英会話の力をメキメキと付けられ、発言量も多く、最近では連絡いただくメールもほとんどが英語になっています。

could understand why they are popular and doing good job.
The session is emceed by Mr. Matsuura, a former company president, who joined this learning society at his latter sixties and has progressed quickly in his English skills, being very talkative

今回の例会司会者は英語圏のシンガポールで保険会社に勤務していたメンバーで、討論資料「2020年の英語小学校導入も難題山積」も準備してもらいました。

本日の尾道無料英会話：
ニューヨークからのアメリカ人とスカイプでのフィリピンからの女性を加えたメンバーによる討論内容は「高齢者支援用人工知能猫型ロボット」でした。

The discussion theme among the members including an American from New York and a lady from the Philippines on Skype was “AI Robot Cat That Helps the Elderly”.
There seems to be a cat person and a dog person for robot animals according to the discussion.
The next regular learning session is the 100th memorial one on February 8th.
