2016年12月22日(No.77)

今年最後の例会を12月22日に行いました。
三成の会場では二人の特別ゲストを迎え、ネイティブスピーカーが3名、総勢11名のにぎやかな例会は各自が2016年を振り返った後、トーキングテーマは「相撲」（添付写真資料）でした。
いつものように1時間30分の英語での例会を終えた後、懇親を兼ねた天ぷらと寿司の年末ランチで今年を締めくくりました。
来年もよろしくお願いします。
なお、久保会場は会場の都合により例会がありませんでした。

December 22, 2016 (No.77)
We had the 2016’s last regular meeting yesterday on Dec. 22. With two more native English speakers as special guests in Minari, after eleven members in total reflected the year of 2016 respectively, we talked about Sumo (ref. the attached picture) for an hour, finishing up this year with the sociable year-end lunch of tempura and sushi.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated next year as well.

2016年11月24日(No.75)

久保道場に3名の新メンバーを迎え、10人で11月の第二回目の学習例会を持ちました。使用している基礎英語3のテキストは12月号が発売中ですっかりクリスマスモードです。
三成道場ではアメリカがちょうど感謝祭の日ということで、アメリカ人のメンバーから感謝祭の食事について、そして司会役が準備した料理材料やその数量の表現方法を話し合いました。
November 24, 2016 (No.75)
In the Kubo learning place, we had the 2nd monthly regular learning session in November with 3 new members. We use the text book of NHK Radio Kiso Eigo 3 there and its December version is all in Christmas mode. 
On the other hand, in the Minari learning place, we enjoyed talking about Thanksgiving dinner in USA with Mr. Noel Russell, one of our members because yesterday happened to be Thanksgiving day . We also learned about the ingredients for meals and the measure words for them using the learning materials MC had prepared for us.

2016年10月27日(No.73)

本日、10月27日、尾道無料英会話道場の様子が短時間でしたがラジオで生中継されました。
実はラジオカーでの放送取材、生放送していただくのは2回目でしたし、以前は地域FMや尾道ケーブルテレビで10年間ほど番組の制作と放送をしていましたので、懐かしく対応させてもらいました。

今回の話題は「世界アルツハイマー日、10の防止ヒント」でした。

October 27, 2016 (No.73)

Today on October 27th, we had our English learning session aired live on RCC Radio though the broadcasting time was not long. 
I myself could cope with this radio cover with fondness because it was my 2nd time and I had engaged in production and broadcasting the radio and TV programs for about 10 years before.

The talking theme of the day is “World Alzheimer’s Day – 10 tips to Prevent Alzheimer’s”.

2016年10月13日(No.72)

一昨日10月13日、三成道場にはニューヨークからMr. Noel Russel を迎えましたが、彼には毎回、レギュラーメンバーとして参加してもらえることになりました。
久保道場ではスカイプのトーク相手に予定していたMilaさんは病気のため、会えませんでしたが、新司会者の司会よろしく、参加者全員の英語での自己紹介とお互いのQ&Aに1時間30分を費やしました。

October 13, 2016(No.72)

On October 13th we had Mr. Noel Russels from NYC with us on October in Minari. He can attend the learning sessions as one of the regular members from this time on.
In the learning session in Kubo, we missed Mila, an iTalk teacher on Skype because of her illness, but our new MC could manage the whole session very well and we could use one and a half hours in making self-introduction and Q & A among us.

無料英会話道場、2ヶ所でそれぞれ1時間30分開催：
昨日、三成と久保の2ヶ所で昨日9月8日に行われました。
三成では10時30分から10名のメンバーが日本の麺類について英語での話し合いを楽しみましたが、今回はインターネット機器の不調で海外ゲストなしで行われました。
もう一ヶ所の久保では15時から8名のメンバーが初めての英語道場をスカイプ上の海外ゲストとのトークで楽しみました。このオープニング例会には平谷市長にも駆け付けていただき、メディア3社からも様子を取材いただきました。

September 8, 2016 (No.71)

Free English Learning Sessions in two places for one and a half hours:
They were held in Minari and Kubo yesterday on September 8th.
The one in Minari started at 10:30 and 10 members enjoyed talking about some kinds of Japanese noodle in English without foreign guests due to the malfunction of the internet connection this time. 
The other one in Kubo started at 15:00 and 8 members there enjoyed their first English learning session together with an overseas guest on Skype. 
Mr. Hiratani, Mayor of Onomichi city, rushed to the meeting to celebrate its opening and the whole meeting session was covered by 3 medias.

尾道無料英会話道場は例年通り8月は夏休み月で例会はありません。入会希望者からのご連絡や他の場所での例会実施のご要望などには都度、お答えしていますが、以下の情報サイトも事前にご覧下さい。現在登録者数は9月からの参加希望者を含めると20名に達していますので道場支部も必要になるでしょう。

We have no regular meetings in August as usual in Onomichi Free English Learning Society. I respond to the inquiries about the membership or other possibility of opening the same free English learning meetings in other places, but please refer to the above written site beforehand for your information. We have now 20 members including the ones who join in September so that another meeting place should be needed.

盛大な？英語学習例会

本日は登録メンバー17名の内、11名が出席して盛大な？英語学習例会となりました。新しく3名が入会希望です。討論内容は「おにぎり」でしたが、スカイプ上での海外ゲストからの矢継ぎ早の質問を充分納得させるにはわかっているつもりの日本人メンバーもタジタジで笑いの多い例会でした。

わかっていることと説明できることは別です。表現に多くのバイパスを持っていることは外国語での説明には大切です。

Great English learning regular gathering
Today we had a great regular English learning gathering with 11 members attended out of 17 registered ones. Three were new members. The discussion theme was "onigiri" (rice ball) and the Skype guest from overseas showered a lot of questions to us Japanese members who are thought to be familiar with onigiri. But it was not easy for us to answer her questions well enough, which made us nonplused over with a lot of laughter.

6月第二回無料英会話道場は23日、10時30分開始でした。

開始後20分ほどは北海道への船旅を楽しまれたメンバーの土産話でした。
その後、Dr. Res Sarno をゲストとして取り上げた話題は、オバマ大統領の広島訪問と8月の原爆記念日を考慮して、35年前の8月6日にアメリカで発行されたシカゴトリビューン紙の「視点」記事、「忘れられてはいない広島」の中で紹介された広島原爆記念館の高橋元館長のインタビュー記事でした。
この時、新聞記者と広島原爆記念館の高橋元館長のお二人への通訳は釜本が行いました。

June 23, 2016 (No.68)
The second Free English Learning meeting in June started at 10:30 on 23rd. 

About 20 minutes after the start, one of the members showed us how she enjoyed her trip to Hokkaido by ship.
After that, commemorating President Obama’s visit to Hiroshima and Atomic Bomb Memorial Day in August, the talking material used was the newspaper interview article between Mr. Takahashi, then director of Hiroshima Peace Museum, and the newspaper reporter, which was in the Perspective published by Chicago Tribune in USA 35 years ago on August 6th, 1982. 
I worked as an interpreter for the two at that time.

無料英会話道場の登録者数が13名になりました。毎回の例会への出席数は6名から10名の出席ですが.。
今日、5月26日の討論テーマは「人類にとって最も重要な10の発明（発見）は？」でした。
道場ではメンバーそれぞれにとって重要な発明・発見・サービスを紹介し合いました。
私にとっての重要な発見は世界で初の抗生物質ペニシリンです。子供の時にかかった肺炎をこのペニシリンで治してもらって命を救われたからです。

May 26, 2016 (No.66)

The total number of the registered members of the free English learning society has become thirteen (13). Usually 6 to 10 members attend the regular meetings though. 
The discussion theme today on May 26th was "Greatest ever inventions for mankind".
We all referred to the most important inventions or discovers to each of us. 
As for me, it is penicillin that cures pneumonia because I was saved by the medicine when I caught pneumonia at the age of two or three.

2016年05月12日(No.65)

ポリオ・ウィルスを使った脳腫瘍の新しいがん治療法がテーマでした。がん治療の通常の3つの方法以外の副作用の少ない治療法として確立されることを期待しています。ここ2が月で私は良い友達、二名をがんで亡くしました。
例会としては毎回、定例会の進行役を交代で務めるようになってから3回目です。皆さん慣れて、そしてより積極的に運営し、協力するようになったようです。例会前の資料や心の準備がそうさせるのでしょう。

A new brain cancer treatment using polio virus is today’s main theme to discuss about. We all hope it will be established as the 4th cancer cell killing way. I have lost two of my good friends due to cancers in the last two months. 
Regarding the regular meeting management, today’s is the third one after each of all the members takes a role of chairperson by turns. All of us seem to be get accustomed to the new rule and to cooperate positively. That maybe thanks to the preparatory work in advance and the mental preparedness of each one’s.

最初の一時間の話題は「九州地震（熊本地震）」でした。アメリカ、フォートウェインから参加していただいたDr. Res Sarno を迎えてこれまでの現状を英字新聞記事で確認し、その後、エコノミー症候群についての話になりました。

後半の30分はセブのパイさんが出席者それぞれ与えたタイトル（インターネット、旅行、お金、食べ物、仕事、勉強）でそれらがどのようにその人を幸せにするかをほとんど準備なして4分ずつ英語で披露する形で進みました。

April 28, 2016

The main topic of today for the first hour was Kyushu Earthquake (Kumamoto Earthquake). With Dr. Res Sarno on Skype from Fort Wayne, we firstly confirmed the present situation using the English Newspaper article and talked about the economy-class syndrome (deep-vein thrombosis).

For the remaining 30 minutes with Pie-san in Cebu on Skype, each of the members talked about how Internet, traveling, money, foods, job and study make each of us happy without much preparation in advance.

明日、3月24日の無料英会話道場例会のテーマタイトルは「National Napping Day」です。あえて訳せば「全国昼寝の日」とでも訳せるでしょうか。
何?そして何故？このようなタイトルになったかは、以下の記事でご覧下さい。
スカイプゲストはDr. SarnoとiTalkのJohnで、今回は新しいメンバーを二人迎えました。

The talking title of tomorrow’s Free English learning session on March 24th is “National Napping Day”.

In much of the United States, Sunday, March 13 marked the beginning of Daylight Savings Time. This meant many people lost one hour of sleep Saturday night. 

To help them ease into the time change, some Americans celebrated National Napping Day on Monday. The hashtag  #national napping day trended worldwide on Twitter and Facebook.

Social media users urged people to take a nap during the day. They said the rest will help you deal with the loss of one hour’s worth of sleep.

Midday naps are common in some countries. There, long lunch breaks enable workers and students to rest after eating.

The United States is not one of those countries. Many American workers take just a 30-minute lunch break.

On National Napping Day, people on social media celebrated the health benefits of napping. Research shows the extra rest can help reduce day-to-day stress. Studies also show naps are also good for your heart, and can help you think clearly at work or school.

Some people tweeted about taking naps when they probably shouldn’t have been, such as during a class or at work.

And not surprisingly, some of the most popular National Napping Day posts were of animals sleeping.
