2015年12月24日 (No.59)
「世界を変えた6つの食品」が12月24日に行った今年最後の尾道無料英会話道場での討論資料テーマ（添付写真）でした。
内容としては前回の「じゃがいも」に続き、第二弾として「砂糖とトウモロコシ」を取り上げました。
アメリカからの海外ゲスト、Dr. Sarno との通信状態が不良（クリスマス時期のための通信量増大？）のため途中でストップするハプニングもありました。

"Six Foods That Changed the World" was the discussion theme for Free English Learning Session in Onomichi held yesterday on December 24 as
the last meeting of the year.
The food we covered was sugar and corn following the potatoes we discussed about last time.
We had Dr. Sarno from USA as a regular guest on Skype, but we were forced to stop the discussion because of the poor internet connection condition (maybe because of too much communication volume
at Christmas time).

いつものように10時30分～12時で開場しました。討論のタイトルは「世界を変えた6つの食材」で、最初にイモについて取り上げました。これがどのように社会状況、国家そして戦争結果などに影響を及ぼしたかも理解できました。

It was held between 10:30 – 12:00 as usual. The discussion theme was “Six Foods That Changed the World” and we dealt with potatoes at first. We could understand how it contributed to social status, empires and the outcome of wars.

今回はメンバーの内、二人が10月にパラオと北欧の旅行を楽しまれたのでその土産話を写真を見ながら楽しみました。スカイプの海外ゲストとはメンバー各自の今年の秋の過ごし方を紹介し合いました。

We enjoyed the travel stories and the pictures in Palau Islands and Northern Europe by two members of us in October. We also had one lady Skype guest to talk about how we enjoyed ourselves in autumn this year.

昨日、11月12日の尾道無料英会話道場（尾道ESS）：
現在イタリア在住で、これまでに20年間ほど世界のいくつかの国（アメリカ、ドイツ、韓国）で生活された経験のある方を尾道の会場に迎えました。いつものようなスカイプゲストではありませでしたが、実経験に基づく国際的な興味あるお話をお聞きでき、メンバー一同、大変有意義な時間を過ごせました。

We had a special lady
guest yesterday on November 12 though she was not a Skype guest. For the last about 20 years she has lived in Italy, USA, Germany and South Korea. We all of the members had a very meaningful time
to listen to her interesting stories based on her practical experiences.

今月一回目の道場開きでしたが、都合により３名の欠席で人数的には少しさみしかったです。内容は火星の水の存在、ノーベル賞受賞に関するトークになりました。

learning was held today with fewer members than usual. We could talk about the strong clear evidence of water on Mars and two Japanese Nobel Prize winners this year.

ゲストはいつもの通り、英語圏からの2名とメンバー6名で行い、リーディングとディスカッションに使用する英文資料は以下の3つの内から②を選びました。
①崩れゆく日本の親子関係
②日本の兵士、海外派兵の可能性
③ケニアの貧しい地域への電力供給
政治、経済、宗教などが複雑に絡んだ状況下ではメンバーそれぞれの意見が合理的で、一つに結論付けるのは無理でした。

The regular free English learning session is to be held in about one hour at 10:30.
We have two English speaking guests as usual besides 6 Japanese members and selected No.2 as the reading and discussing material among the following three items.
①Parent-child relations crumble in Japan
②Japanese Soldiers Might Fight Abroad.
③Providing Electricity to Poor Communities in Kenya
Each opinion or idea by members seems to be reasonable and it was difficult to make one conclusion because the present world is not simple but very complicated with politics,economy, religions and so on.

アメリカとフィリピンの二人の英語圏からのゲストと見学者の総勢9人での例会になりました。大半の時間をメンバーが今年の夏をどう過ごしたかを述べることに費やしたさめに準備していた英語資料（写真）の討論は次回に延期しました。

The regular meeting was
held by 9 total members including two English speaking guests from USA and the Philippines and one visitor. We spent most of the time of one and a half hours showing how each of us enjoyed their
summer time and two prepared English materials (attached picture) are to be used next time.

今日は以下の内容「刺青除去クリーム」での討論、情報交換しました。
海外のゲストは外科医のDr.
SarnoとKatさんでしたが、外科医で刺青除去手術もしたことのあるDr. Sarnoの話、情報は一同納得できるものでした。Katさんからは女性の刺青はイメージダウンで昨今のファッション的扱いは歓迎できるものではない、とのコメントがありました。

could understand what Dr, Sarno, a surgeon, told us about tattoo. He had tattoo removal operation before, he said. Kat said the recent trend of tattooing on ladies can not be accepted because it
leads to big image damage of ladies.

海外医療・介護従事者の受入れ：
6月11日の尾道英会話道場では一昨日予告した「サイバー攻撃」でなく、急きょ、討論内容を上述のタイトルのように変更しました。
医療・介護従事者の海外からの受入れのネックとなっているのは日本語の問題です。グローバル化社会においてはお互いがお互いの言語能力習得の努力をして、一方的に自国の言語を海外からの従事者に強要せず、50（日本語）：50（外国語）の対等の関係で現場業務を遂行することが必要です。そして、海外からの資格能力を認定して現場でプロとして勤務すれば、言語能力は数年で取得できるとの結論になりました。これはフィリピン生まれの外科医でタイ、アメリカなどの国の医療現場で働いてきたきた医師、看護師さんからの直接の意見です。関係者はこれらの経験者の意見、現場の声をもっと聴き、現在の方針を転換すべきでしょう。

Accepting overseas
medical workers:
Yesterday’s discussion theme was suddenly changed to the above written one from the “Cyberattacks” preannounced the day before yesterday.
The biggest bottleneck in accepting the overseas medical workers is due to a language problem. In the global society, both parties (countries) should make efforts to get the language skills of
each other’s and should not force the overseas workers to get them one-sidedly. They should use both languages in the workplaces on the 50 (domestic language) to 50 (foreign language) basis. The
foreign licenses also should be approved mutually for them to start working in a professional manner as soon as possible and the language skills are to be obtained as time passes in a few years
or so. These are direct opinions by the doctor and the nurse born in the Philippines, who have worked in Thailand, USA and other countries. The related people should listen to the experienced
doctors, nurses and caregivers and change the current policy.

第四木曜日、いつものように10時30分にスタートしました。30分間はフィリピン女性とのフリートークでしたが、各自の近況、活動予定に関するものでした。その後のアメリカ人医師とのトークは各メンバーの積極的な話題提供で1時間が過ぎました。地方選挙をテーマに予定していましたが、私から日本の拡声器を使った選挙、20％に近い無投票当選などについて紹介した程度に終わりました。

The session started at 10:30 on the 4th Thursday as usual. We spent the beginning 30 minutes with a Philippine lady talking about each member’s daily activity and plan. Following this
we spent 60 minutes with Dr. Sarno, the regular American guest, about many topics by all the members though the topic of local elections in Japan and USA. Only I showed him the election campaign
using loud speakers and winning by default reaches as many as 20 %

今月二回目の例会はメンバーのマニラ訪問時の写真紹介と「平均寿命」（下記資料参照）に関してのトークになりました。
スカイプゲストのDr. Res Sarnoによれば、寿命を左右する遺伝子は個人では何もできないが、健康寿命のために毎日の生活で個人でできることは食生活に注意し、生活の質を高め、他人への奉仕もよいのでは、とのコメントをいただきました。

The second regular free learning session was held and the pictures taken in the Philippines during their trip in February by the members were showed. The life expectancy was the another talking subject.
According to Dr. Sarno, a regular Skype guest, we can not do anything on our genes but we can personally be careful about what to eat and we improve the quality of life and do something good for the others for a healthy longer life by ourselves.

今日も午前10時30分から今月一回目の無料英会話道場を開きました。海外ゲストはKateさんでした。討論テーマは ”無職の若者の感じるストレスと疎外感”でしたが、メンバーには無職の経験をした人がいなかったために、無職の若者の感じるストレスと疎外感を知ることは勉強になりました。ただ、就職する努力、働く努力、職業継続の努力がもっと必要であること、そして過大な福祉、福祉の不法利用などへの批判意見もありました。

At 10:30 to day, we had the 1st Free English Speaking Society meeting in February with Kate as a foreign guest. The discussion theme of today's session was "Unemployed Youths Feel Stressed and
Isolated". None of the members have experienced being unemployed so that realizing the stress and isolation of the unemployed youths was useful. But many of us want the youths to make more
efforts to get jobs, to work and continue the jobs. Some said too much welfare and illegal use of welfare should be stopped.

Different from the prepared topics of “the influence of the exchange rate changes” and “the languages close to extinction”, we spent one and a half hours all too soon to talk about “good news”
and “bad news” in the past two weeks as well as the daily physical, brain and spiritual exercises.
Anyway, the members’ speaking out willingness in English is amazing.
