語学力とビジネス能力、人間性 Language ability, business ability, and human nature

メジャーリーガーの大谷選手の前通訳、水原氏の問題を見て、海外で日本人が生活し、仕事をする時に現地で生活経験の長い日本人を語学力だけで過度に信用してはいけない、ということを再認識しました。

私も海外ビジネスに関わった会社が東南アジアの現地で生活経験の長い語学力に優れた日本人を責任ある立場に登用して、彼らの数億円の投資が結果的に失敗に終わったことを見ています。

語学力、その流ちょうさとビジネス能力、そして人間性は無関係です。しかし、海外で不安な時にはこのことを忘れがちです。

I have also seen that a company involved in overseas business in Southeast Asia employed a Japanese with excellent language skills who had long experience living locally to a position of responsibility, and their hundreds of millions of yen investments ultimately ended in failure.

Language skills and its fluency have nothing to do with business ability or human qualities. However, it is easy to forget this when one is anxious abroad.
