成人の日 　　Coming-of-Age Day

今日は西日本や関東では穏やかで天気の良い成人の日です。

法律的には昨年2022年4月から若者は18歳で成人となるようになりましたが、ニュースによれば20歳で成人式や成人を祝う行事を行う自治体が依然として圧倒的に多いとのことです。

私たちの最初の孫も今は大学生で今年20歳になり、数十分前に着物でその晴れ着姿をテレビ電話経由で見せてもらいました。

彼女は私が東京出張中に誕生したこともあり、祖父母の中では私が最初に彼女を腕に抱くことができたことを今でもはっきりと覚えています。

多くの成人の若者の健康で輝かしい未来を祈っています。

Today is Coming of Age Day in Japan, a mild and sunny day in western Japan and Kanto areas.

Legally, young people become adults at the age of 18 since last April in 2022, but news reports indicate that the overwhelming majority of municipalities still hold coming-of-age ceremonies and celebrations for them at their age 20.

Our first grandchild, now a college student, also turns 20 this year, and we had the pleasure of seeing her in a kimono a few dozen minutes ago via video telephone in that fine outfit.

She was born while I was on a business trip to Tokyo, and I still clearly remember that I was the first of the grandparents to be able to hold her in my arms.

I wish many young adults a healthy and bright future.
