この大学院大学が世界の研究機関の中で優れた研究成果を上げている研究機関ランキングでトップテン入りしていること、そして、なぜ優れた研究成果が得有られているかの理由が研究の自由度と研究費支援であることをNHKのニュースで知りました。

ここ数十年の政府の貧しく後ろ向きの科学技術支援、振興施策のために日本の科学技術力の将来が懸念されている現在、非常に明るいニュースです。

この沖縄科学技術大学院大学（OIST）では今年のノーベル生理学・医学賞の受賞者で、ドイツのスバンテ・ペーボ博士が客員教授を務められています。

スバンテ・ペーボ博士は過去20数年にわたって毎年のように三次市の禅寺（西光禅寺）を訪れ、研究に関する本の執筆も行っていたことも、すでに報道されています。

沖縄は私たちも過去、2度旅行しましたが、何度も訪問したい場所です。

I have learned from the NHK news that this graduate school is ranked among the top ten research institutions in the world for their outstanding research results, and that the reason for the outstanding research results is the freedom of research and research funding support.

This is very encouraging news at a time when there are concerns about the future of Japan's scientific and technological capabilities due to the government's poor and backward-looking support and promotion policies for science and technology over the past few decades.

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is hosting this year's Nobel Prize winner in Physiology and Medicine, Dr. Svante Pääbo of Germany, as a visiting professor.

It has also already been reported that Dr. Svante Pääbo has been visiting the Zen temple in Miyoshi (Saiko-Zenji) every year for the past 20-odd years and has even written books about his research.

Okinawa is a place we have traveled to twice in the past and would like to visit again and again.
