昨日、上海で約20年ビジネスを営んで、9月に困難を乗り越えて日本に一時帰国している友人に面会して現在の中国の生の情報を得ました。
その中でもっとも驚いたのがタイトルの内容ですが、実際に住んでいる人から直接聞く衝撃は大きいものでした。
ここ数年の中国の多くの敵対的言動から判断して、あり得ることとは思いますが、日本もかつて英語を敵国語として禁止した暗黒の戦争時代がありました。
2021年はきっと中国の衰退の開始年でしょう。

Yesterday, I met with a friend of mine who has been running a business in Shanghai for about 20 years and temporarily returned to Japan in September after overcoming some difficulties, and I have received the current raw information from China.
What surprised me the most was the content of the title, but hearing directly from people who actually live there was a great shock.
Judging from China's many hostile words and actions in the past few years, I think it is possible, but it reminded me of the dark days of war when Japan also banned English as an enemy language.

The Shanghai Municipal Education Commission has recently added "Xi Jinping Thought" as a compulsory subject in the city's elementary and middle schools, strengthening ideological education for young people. At the same time, it decided to exclude English as a subject for the final exam in elementary schools. Against the backdrop of the prolonged confrontation between the U.S. and China, some see this as a sign that the Xi Jinping administration is beginning to close the country off.
On April 3, the city's Board of Education promulgated a notice on curriculum planning for primary and secondary schools for 2021. The authorities stipulated that elementary school "subjects for final exams in grades 3, 4, and 5 shall be limited to language and arithmetic" and that English be excluded.
