金メダル　　Gold medal

昨夜、2020+1東京オリンピックの最後の男子マラソン表彰式を閉会式で見ました。

ケニアの金メダリストを見ながら、2008北京オリンピック男子マラソンでケニア初の金メダリストになったワンジル選手のことを思い出しました。

彼にはオリンピックの2週間後の9月10日にナイロビで遭遇し、短い時間でしたが言葉を交わし、一緒に写真を撮らせてもらいました。

写真のとおり、実際に会って、握手し、会話してみると実にシャイで小柄な若者でした。良く出てくる言葉が、ありがとうございます、よろしくお願いします、などなど・・・・・・・。

彼は連覇を期待されていましたが不幸にもその後、若くしてこの世を去りました。

今回、（金）メダルを取った選手、取らなかった選手、すべてに今後、是非、人生の金メダルも獲得するように祈ります。

I watched the last award ceremony for the men's marathon of the 2020+1 Tokyo Olympics in the closing ceremony last night on TV.

Seeing the Kenyan gold medalist, I remembered Kenya’s Samuel Wanjiru, who won the men's marathon gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics for the first time in Kenya.

About 2 weeks after he won the gold medal, I happened to meet him in Nairobi, Kenya on September 10, shaking hands with him, talking with him for a short time and having a picture taken with him.

As is seen in the picture, he was a small and shy guy, often using the Japanese words of ‘Arigato gozaimasu’, ‘Yoroshiku onegai shimasu’ and so on.

He was expected to repeat his winnings, but he passed away unfortunately.

I hope that all of those who won the (gold) medals and those who could not this time will get their own gold medals of life.
