ブラックアウト：
これまでに仕事で出かけていた東南アジアでブラックアウトという表現はよく聞いたことがあり、単なる停電と思っていましたが、今回、昨日の北海道での地震による停電でブラックアウトの意味、メカニズムを理解できました。
アウトという言葉が「完全に、全く」という意味を持つことから、「完全な停電」という意味になり、その深刻さは「普通の小規模停電」とは全く異なるのですね。
Blackout:
I have often heard the word of blackout in the Southeast Asian countries I visited on business and thought it just a power failure.
But the power stoppage over the entire Hokkaido area by the major earthquake yesterday has made me understand what the blackout really means and how it is caused.
Judging from the meaning of the word “out”, the blackout situation is quite different from that of the minor power failures.
