道作り Michi-tsukuri

ちょうど一週間前、10月1日が地区で「道作り」という日でした。
各自が家の周囲の道を中心に道を清掃し整える日です。春と秋の2回が基本で、場所によっては更に回数が増えることもあります。
海外の友人の何人かに何回かこのような習慣を説明したことがありますが、同じ習慣があるというコメントをもらったことはありません。
なお、添付の写真は私たちの清掃とは直接の関係はありませんが、雰囲気は同じです。
Just one week ago, on October 1st we had a day named michi-tsukuri that literally means making the ways of daily use, but actually means sidewalk cleaning. 
Each household cleans the ways around or near the houses usually two times a year, sometimes more often depending on the places.
I have explained this cleaning custom to some of my overseas friends, but never got the comments that they have the same activities.
