ある年末年始、働き方　Work and life balance during a certain year-end through new year days

私はかつて年末年始を翻訳の仕事でつぶしたことがあります。
ある大手の会社からの金属摩擦に関する研究報文の翻訳でしたが、依頼の条件が正月明けまでに仕上げること、だったからです。
依頼者（社）は年末や正月に休んでも、請負者（社）の年末・正月休みには配慮しない、ということです。
今年も働き方、過酷な残業による過労死の問題がクローズアップされましたが、残業による長時間労働の原因の一つが、顧客や上司からの無理な要求です。
このような身勝手で無理な要求は断るべきですが、断るためには請負者（社）や部下もそれなりの準備と体制が必要です。
お客様はいつも神様ではありません。上司の要求がいつも正しいとは限りません。

I have once been forced to spend all the days in the holiday season around the new year days in the translation work.
A big company wanted me to finish translating the research report on metal friction by the beginning of their work on January 5th.
That means they don’t care about the contractors even if they have their own relaxed holidays around the year-end and the new year.
The problem of the overwork death was focused this year, too and one of the causes of too long overtime work is the impossible asked for by the customers or the boss.
This kind of crazy and selfish requests should be turned down. And the contractors and the subordinates must be prepared to refuse the requests. 
The customer is not always king. The request from the boss is not always right.
