セミの命　Life of cicadas

一昨日、7月20日、午前7時過ぎ、羽化中にセメントの床に落下して逆さまになりもがいているセミを妻が発見しました（写真①）。
そのままでは羽根を伸ばすには支障があると思い、で木の棒を差し出してつかまらせ（写真②）、敵に襲われないように葉っぱの陰におき、羽根がしっかり伸びて乾燥するのを待ちました（写真③）。
妻によれば、私たちの庭、地上に現れて約5時間後の11時頃やっと無事に飛び立ったようです。
蝉がすべて羽化に成功することはなく、その失敗の原因の一つは今回のように地面への落下である、と言われています。
The day before yesterday on July 20th, my wife found a cicada struggling upside down after being fallen on the cement floor during its emergence (Picture ①). 
I thought it could not finish its emergence because he could not extend his wings as it was. So I held out a wooden stick for him to cling to it (Picture ②). And I put it in the shadow of leaves for him to dry his wings and not to be attacked by his enemies (Picture ③). 
According to my wife, he could finally fly high into the sky around 11 o’clock in safety maybe 5 hours after coming out on the ground of out garden.
It is said not all cicadas finish their emergence and one of the reasons for the failure is falling down on the earth while emerging.
