通訳の壁、日本はガラパゴス？　　Is Japan a Galapagos country?

先月のフィリピンは英語に堪能な人と一緒でしたから通訳する必要が全くなくて大変楽しかったです。
言語の壁は確かに存在します。どのように優秀な通訳を介しても正確に伝わる内容は70％と言われています。ですから、自分が通訳不要のレベルにまで外国語の語学力を高めるのが国際舞台での業務遂行には必要です。
今では多くの外国人は母国語以外に英語の力を十分に持っています。この点で日本がガラパゴス国であることは事実であり、根本的な教育改革がなければその孤立はますます深まるでしょう。
I could enjoy the stay in the Philippines last month very much because I was with a Japanese who can manage good English and I did not need to translate at all.
The language barrier surely exists and it is said that even the best interpreter can translate 70% of what he deals correctly at most. So it is indispensable to have as good foreign language skills as no interpreter is required on the international business stages.
Now many foreign people have good English language skills besides their own mother language. In this respect, Japan is a Galapagos country and its isolation will be deepened further without the fundamental education reform.
