藍染・デニム、化学はロマン(7)：
昨日、所用で世界の有名ブランドとなっているデニム生地のトップメーカーであるカイハラ㈱本社（府中市、http://www.kaihara-denim.com/index.html）にお邪魔しました。長い間、日本を代表してきた製造業の会社をついに訪問でき、繊維産業の良い匂いを感じました。
写真は藍染用の染料、インディゴの化学式です。酸化発色すると不水溶性になる不思議な染料です。

Yesterday I visited KAIHARA Co., Ltd on business, a leading manufacturing company of the brand-named denim fabric all over the world. (http://www.kaihara-denim.com/english/index.html) I felt I could finally have visited a manufacturing company that has been representing Japan for a long time and could detect a good whiff of the textile industry. 
The picture shows the chemical formula of the indigo dye that becomes water-insoluble when oxidized to produce its color .
