義母とセーター　Mother in law and a sweater

先月、様子見に90歳を過ぎている義母を兵庫県丹波市に訪ねました。加齢による体力の衰えはありますが、車を押しての歩行、スピードと内容のある私たちとの会話、自分自身の身の回りの世話はできます。視力が0.1程度ですが3色の細番手手編み毛糸でセーターを完成させていたのには驚きました。年齢を重ねてもいつまでも時間を有効に使うこと、手を使った物つくりを継続すること、世間の動きに関心を持つことなどの大切を改めて教えてもらいました。
Last month, we visited my mother in law in her 90’s in her town. She seemed to be physically weakened with her age, but she could walk with a cart, speak with us at the normal speed on various topics and take care of herself. We were very surprised with the sweater she had knitted by hands using the thin count wool yarns in 3 colors despite of her weak eyesight of 0.1. We were taught again how important it is to make a good use of time, to continue to male something using our hands and to keep interest in what's going on in the world even if we get old.
